Organisers of the annual Swahili Fashion Week 2009 are seeking designers for the event slated for November 2009 in the Tanzanian’s port city of Dar es Salaam.
The event, which is open to designers from Swahili speaking countries, was successful last year and graced by Nigerian supermodel Oluchi Omweagba on the runway under the meticulous choreography and direction of Jan Malan Umzingeli from South Africa.
It showcased Tanzanian designers and other models, including the Finalists of M’Net Face of Africa 2008.
This year, the organisers are looking to increase the number of the designers with host Tanzania producing twelve.
“We are looking for many designers from Swahili speaking countries as possible.” said Hamis Omari, one of the organisers.
He added that preparations were already in top gear and that the event this year would be bigger and better.
“The preparations are underway this year, to create a three day of fashion galore, gallantry, glitz and glamour of what best East Africa has to offer.” He concluded.
Participants include accessory, jewellery, handbags and shoe designers.
